So that just leaves an Oscar and a Grammy and we’ll have a full collection.

In Straight to DVD, the fantastic ponydance hoof their way through words and dance, bringing you their interpretation of Saturday night television at its worst, ad breaks and all (except for the news because that’s depressing).

So rehearsals are well under way for ponydance‘s latest entry (Straight to DVD) into the world of comedy dance theatre (which we all know they are market leaders) and as is turns out well are all really talented and making art is really easy… It’s a pleasure to be working in theMAC, Belfast’s brand spanking new arts centre. The MAC (Metropolitan Arts Centre) hosts everything from theatre to dance to artwork in their galleries not forgetting a cheeky little bar for you to wet your whistle. GO VISIT NOW!

It’s also a huge pleasure to be working with ponydance again. Always inspiring, always intense and always hilarious!! I’ve be doing design and photography work for them as well as dancing so really getting my creative fix whilst i’m here in Belfast!

If anyone is in the area ponydance are holding FREE open class in the mornings from 9am till 10:30am so pop along if you think you’re hard enough

The Dance Dome is a collaboration between the The Arts Council of Wales, Urban Reaction Research Lab and Chapter, whichi aims to take the best of Welsh contemporary dance and present it to audiences in 360 degrees (imagine a very very wide fish-eye lens in x10 HD)!! That’s right. First we had 3-D, and that wastn’t good enough. So now we are immersing ourselves in a full 360 degree projection! The Dance Dome (seen above) will be touring Wales this spring, and the premire, I believe, will be in Swansea. The Dance Dome will also pop up outside Chapter in Cardiff.  There are three Choreographers taking part in the Dance Dome project:Tanja Råman, Sandra Harnisch-Lacey and Sean Taun John. From what I hear, all three have taken a very different apporach to this very exciting, NEW technology. ISean Tuan John, the choreographer I worked with, was given the theme ‘SINISTRA,’ which was right up his street. The first time we met up to discuss the project, he was already inventing bizarre characters that were a cross between a haunted Alice and Wonderland and Edward Scissorhands! But I’m not one to shy away from a little bit of freaky movement. In fact, I (for sure) prefer it!! And I wasn’t alone. My partner in crime Lara Ward (of EarthFall Dance Theatre) also enjoyed the oddities of the movement. Together we haunted the underworld as twisted WormMoleRatDuck-Billed-Platypuses. Then for fun, we roamed graveyards looking for ways to justify our angelic ASBOS < not making sense? Just you wait!!

Graveyard Shooting

So we filmed in a gorgeous graveyard by a little church. We couldn’t start filming until its was dark so it was time for ‘hair and make ups!!!’ Here is Neil putting glitter all over Neil’s head!!! We had glitter glued to our faces and our hair slicked back, then we zipped up our Adidas trackys and became ‘The Chav Angels’




Here we have the real star of the show 9 year old Eve (note her ‘are these guys for real face’) She wasn’t fazed by a thing and considering we were in a graveyard till the early hour of the morning in cold blackest night!!! Actually to be honest she was a complete pro and showed us all up by making great suggestions and nailing every shot! Watch out Hollywood EVE IS COMING!!!

WormMoleRatDuck-Billed-Platypus

Thursday was green screen day!! (i never got round to asking why they call it a green screen..) Thursday saw me and Lara covered in liqud latex! I have never had this done before but I took many layers before its build up enough to really look and feel like skin. Another first was contact lenses, never used them before but they seem to pop in and out ok. I could feel them itching around and causing a white haze in my pariferrel vision for the first hour but after that they were grand!! Enjoy the snaps!!



The only down side to the day is I ended up with the most aweful toothache (awwwww bless) I know, I know. But managed to get the last few shots in before it descided to ease of typical!!

Last week RedTape Dance Company premiered ‘Sync In Progress’ to a packed Rohin Howard Theatre, London. For me it was great to be back at The Place where I spent so many years and the guys at the theatre are total pro’s and make life so easy when plotting lights and general teching. Here are some reviews of the night which proved to be a diverse night of dance. I think they are fair, we a dealing with a huge subject and are figuring it out as we go almost, but the great thing is, it’s not done! we want to dig deeper into this subject. So for now its ‘Sync still in progress’

“Whirling around headphone wires and whipping out their mobiles, the four performers of RedTape Dance Company explore our antisocial cyber society in Maria Cassar’s Sync in Progress. Heads down and phones out, even mid embrace the dancers ignore the bodies before them for the screen beyond. But just like in real life the phone flashing soon became grating and, although the four dancers performed with conviction, sadly they brought nothing new or inspiring to rather difficult subject matter, which unfortunately for them was all too easily compared to Protein Dance’s LOL.”

“With the auditorium bursting at the seams on this Valentine’s Resolution! a promising opening kicks off with RedTape Dance Company, whose members are planted in the audience, engaged in a symphony of disjointed conversations.
